Who We Are

Temenos Oikidios began as the Hellenic Temple of Apollon, Zeus and Pan, a semi-public ritual space for the Greek Gods founded by Hiereus Timotheos Anderson in 2005. Timotheos’ husband, Peregrine, whom he met in 2011, began their own temple, The Hellenic Temple of Hermes, Hera, and Dionysus, when they began living together in West Warwick. In 2018, Timotheos and Peregrine decided to join their two temples together with the support of their group(s) and the Gods – becoming Temenos Oikidios – or “The Temple of the Little House.”

Temenos Oikidios’ mission is to provide a sacred space for the worship of the Greek Gods and Goddesses and for the spiritual growth and development of those who join us in ritual or become members of our tradition.

Our Hellenic Path is a combination of updated ancient practices, modern innovation, group needs, and personal gnosis. Our philosophy is based on five ancient Greek words:

  • Xenia – the relationship between the host and guest – that all who join together in ritual share a bond of trust, respect, and reciprocity.
  • Eusebeia – piety – acknowledging the Gods and Goddesses and their role in the cosmos through action.
  • Arete – the concept that while we are only human, we are still human and should always strive to our highest potential.
  • Nomos – honoring sacred tradition – for us this means maintaining a religious practice which incorporates modern and ancient practices while being honest about when we are practicing one or the other.
  • Kharis – Gratefulness to the Gods, Goddesses, Ancestral Spirits and Guides for their many blessings and support.

How to Participate in Our Group

Anyone can participate in our group as a worshiper at one of the semi-public temple events, or seek guidance from one of our priests/priestesses. For those who are interested in deepening their involvement, we offer the following learning structure:

– Philioi – Or “Friends” of the Temple who have taken our introductory class
– Oikogenioi – or “Family” who have undergone rituals of naming and wreathing
– Myetai – or “Initiate” who are initiated into our version of the Eleusinian Mysteries
– Hiereioi – or “Priests” who have taken vows of priesthood to serve the community
